Welcome

Modern organic synthesis allows researchers the power to precisely design, prepare, and vary molecular structures. In our research program, we combine new and established synthetic methods to prepare molecules designed to address two important and interrelated goals. First, we are interested in new molecules that can modulate nucleic acid and protein structure and function. Our second goal is to develop new materials with unique optical and electronic properties. A material’s properties are defined not only by the arrangement of atoms at the molecular level but by the interaction between these molecules in solution (association) or in the solid state (packing). Both of our research goals are intimately linked through organic chemistry and molecular recognition. We are poised to make fundamental discoveries that could impact some of societies most challenging problems in fields ranging from medicine to energy.
